FAQ's about Flu Camp

  • Why is the website named 'Flucamp.com'?

As some of our studies require a 10-15 day stay in a comfortable facility, we call these worthy and novel research studies 'Flu Camp'. Groups of young, healthy people spend 2 weeks with each other sharing one thing in common - a cold, flu or other respiratory virus.

Other studies don't require overnight stays, but often test new treatments for the treatment of, or protection against viral infections.

  • Are Flu Camp studies approved by an ethics committee?

Yes, all studies have been approved by a recognised research ethics committee.

  • What will I have to do in order to be able to participate in a Flu Camp study?

The first step is to undergo screening. We will ask you to come to our clinic for a full health check-up. We may also ask you to provide blood samples to check if you have had a cold, flu or other respiratory virus recently and to check your general health status.
If your test results show you can participate, we will discuss assigning you to a study depending on your availability.

  • WHO DO I CONTACT IF I WOULD LIKE MORE INFORMATION, OR IF I HAVE ANY PROBLEMS?

If you have any questions about your inclusion into our database, please do not hesitate to contact a member of Retroscreen staff on 020 7756 1414.

  • How do I get information about a specific study?

If at a later date we then ask you to participate in a clinical study, you will be given all the necessary information regarding that study in a separate information sheet along with a consent form for that specific study.

  • How will medications be administered?

Treatment and vaccines for colds, flu and other viruses may be given by nasal spray, by swallowing a pill, by injection into a muscle in your arm, or by drip into a vein in your arm.

  • Will my information be kept safe?

Retroscreen Study Physicians, Study Nurses and other Retroscreen personnel will record information about you in a computerised database. This personal information will include information about your health and your demographic details (such as your date of birth and sex). Your information will be treated in the strictest confidence.

  • Am I obliged to take part once I have signed up to the website?

You are not obliged to take part. Your participation is entirely voluntary, which means it is up to you to decide whether you want to take part or not. You may withdraw at any time , you do not have to participate in future studies and you can ask to have your personal details removed from our database.
